A friend shared a beautiful metaphor with me:
“In life, we each tend to a garden—a space where tall trees represent the well-developed skills and passions that we’ve nurtured and refined over time. These trees, with their thick trunks and towering canopies, ground us and provide stability. From these trees, we often derive our sense of self and identity.
But what happens if those tall trees are cut down, whether by choice or forces beyond our control? How will our garden continue to flourish?
For a well-balanced garden, we must also consider tending to smaller shrubs and saplings — these are our under-developed interests that we are still cultivating, some thriving, others struggling to take root. And we must not forget the flowering plants in between, with vibrant buds waiting to bloom when the time is right.”
We must make a conscious effort to tend to our gardens — nurturing not only the skills we’ve mastered but also our emerging interests, ideas, and everything in between.
By doing so, we create space for revitalisation, resilience, and renewal, enabling our gardens to flourish, regardless of the seasons or storms that may arise.
Welcome to My Garden.
